At the Moment #5

Hi guys! How are you? I hope you’re having a lovely December! I wasn’t planning on doing an At the Moment post today, but yesterday I discovered a new podcast that I’ve fallen in love with and really want to talk to you guys about! I’m like, weirdly excited, cause I don’t usually enjoy listening to podcast and I didn’t think I’d ever find one I like this much.

…I’m reading: If They Come for Us by Fatimah Asghar

I’ve been reading my mom’s 5 star predictions this week and really enjoying all of them! My current read is this stunning poetry collection by Fatimah Asghar. Her poems are all rooted in her country’s history, her family’s history and her own experience coming of age as a Muslim girl in America. It’s beautiful, but also brutal at times.

these are my people & I find
them on the street & shadow
through any wild all wild
my people my people
a dance of strangers in my blood
the old woman’s sari dissolving to wind
bindi a new moon on her forehead
I claim her my kin & sew
the star of her to my breast

…I’m watching: Gilmore Girls

I always get a little nostalgic this time of year, so I’ve been rewatching Gilmore Girls. It’s my all-time favorite show and even though it’s not exactly Christmas-y it gives me that warm and cozy December feeling. I could listen to Lorelai and Rory’s banter all day. If Christmas at Hogwarts is off the table, I think Christmas in Stars Hollow would be a delightful second choice. Just imagine all the quirky traditions and fairy-lights and hot chocolate at Luke’s.

…I’m listening to: Unlikable Female Characters

I finally found a podcast I love! It’s called Unlikable Female Characters and is hosted by three smart, funny feminist writers who love unlikable female characters as much as I do.Β In their first episode they talk about some of their favorite and least favorite female characters, from Wednesday Adams to Hanna Horvath, and in their latest they recommend their favorite 2018 books releases with unlikable female protagonists. There’s only 3 episodes out so far, which is great cause I have commitment issues, but also not great cause now I have to wait two weeks for the next one and I’m sad about it.

What have you been reading, watching and listening to lately? What podcasts are you into? Have you read an good poetry collections this year? I always love getting your recommendations!

  3. I am currently reading Thunderhead and it’s so good. I haven’t been watching much besides youtube. I need to check out Gilmore Girls. I’ve seen episodes but never watched from start to finish. I always wanted to though. I have been listening to a lot of Christmas music lately.

    1. Thank you so much! Unlikable Female Characters is actually the first podcast I’ve really enjoyed, I usually listen to audiobooks. But I started by looking up podcast based on things I’m interested in like books, folklore, mythology, modern love etc. I just google search and read through recommendation lists. So I’m far from an expert, haha 😊
