Hi guys! It’s time for another Top 5 Wednesday! T5W is a weekly meme hosted by Sam@Thoughts on Tomes over on Goodreads. This month is rewind month, which means we can choose to do any past topic we missed or loved so much that we want to do it again. This week I’m doing: Bookish Theme Songs. This was such a fun topic for me to do, cause I love books and I love music (though not at the same time, I don’t know how ya’ll do that) and I love making playlists inspired by books. So here’s five boos and songs I think fit each other perfectly.
Links:
1. The Surface Breaks by Louise O’Neill + Sea by Ina Wroldsen
2. We Are Okay by Nina LaCour + Sleepover by Hayley Kiyoko
3. Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi + I’m Yours by Alessia Cara
4. Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor + Past Lives by BØRNS
5. Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson + Youth by Daughter
Let’s chat! Have you read any of these books? If you have – do you think the songs fit? Are there any songs that remind you of a certain book or character? And do you listen to music while reading? HOW???
I haven’t read any of these books and don’t know any of these songs OMG have I been living under a rock? I’ve seen Emergency Contact everywhere tho, is it good?

Yes, it’s fantastic! I just finished it and it’s my new favorite contemporary 😊

Awesome list, even though I haven’t read any of these yet haha. 😀 As for the music, I only know of Daughter, which I love a lot, so I’ll be adding Tiger Lily to my tbr. 🙂

I’m not familiar with the other songs (…or most of the books) but I agree on Sleepover – it’s perfect for We Are Okay. A gay song on the quiet side for a quiet gay book, and they also have similar themes in a way.
(Also yes sometimes I listen to music when I read, because music I know is less distracting than random noise!)

I’m glad you agree! It was the first song I thought of when I saw this topic, I think it fits the tone and mood of the book so well. Plus, yeah it’s so gay! I get that, music is better than noise – but I read so slooowly with music on 😂

Wow, this is such a beautiful post! I love how you laid this out ^^. I haven’t read any of these yet, but I think the songs go with the premises nicely. The only time I’ve ever been able to listen to music while reading was when I read THUG. I played J. Cole’s Forest Hills Drive album. I was only able to do it because I’d listened to the album way too many times before, though lol.

Thank you so much!!! Now I kind of wish I could listen to music while reading, cause that sounds like the perfect soundtrack for the book.

I still need to read We Are Okay, but I just know that Sleepover is the perfect song for it. And Youth is such a great song!! It was on one of my “chill out” playlists.

We Are Okay is really good, I hope you enjoy it! It is such a great song and I never get tired of it, even though I’ve been listening to it for years now.

I LOVE that you chose Sleepover for We are Okay. What a perfect fit! I generally always listen to music when I’m reading (8tracks is perfect for finding the right moods/genres!) and sometimes I end up associating characters and songs that have very little to do with each other. 😀

They just seem like they were made for each other! But how do you do it??? I want to listen to music while reading cause it’sis like giving the book your own soundtrack, but I just get way too distracted by the lyrics. Now I’m so curious what character you associate with what songs!
