T5W: Favorite SFF Cover Art

Hi guys! It’s time for another Top 5 Wednesday! T5W is a weekly meme hosted by Sam@Thoughts on Tomes over on Goodreads. This month is rewind month, which means we can choose to do any past topic we missed or loved so much we want to do again. This week I’m doing Favorite SFF Cover Art, cause who doesn’t want an excuse to stare at some pretty covers???

1. Fairytales for Wilde Girls by Allyse Near

This is one of my favorite books and it has one of my favorite covers. Not only is it stunning, it also represents the story so well. Everything you see has significance: the girl, the woods, the rabbit, the birdcage, even the crescent moon…

2. The Surface Breaks by Louise O’Neil

This is my current read and I can’t stop staring it. It’s even more beautiful in real life with silver foiling both on the dustjacket and beneath it – in a lovely mermaid-tail like pattern.

3. Under the Pendulum Sun by Jeannette Ng

While this wasn’t my favorite read, it definitley has one of my favorite covers. It’s so intricate and aesthetically pleasing I could stare at it for hours. It also captures the eerie, Gothic vibe of the book very well!

4. The Library of Fates by Aditi Khorana

This cover is so beautiful I wish I could frame it and hang it on my wall. I just love the Ombré colors and all the beautiful details on the floating throne.

5. Glitter by Aprilynne Pike

I’m not going to lie, this was one was a total cover-buy for me. But it’s okay cause I loved the book as well! This is definitley my favorite cover with a person on it, I just love this color palate.

So clearly I have a type… Are you as in love with these covers as I am? What’s your favorite SFF covers? Does it matter to you if the cover matches the content? Let’s talk!

  1. Oooh these are all so pretty! And purple 😀 I can see you love it as I do, and very often I buy books just because of the cover (shame) 😀 I mostly like pretty illustrations, paper/shadow art, and intricate designs with many details that fit in well. I don’t really like photo covers, especially with people, and especially stock photos of people that some people reuse for other books :S I guess it’s because I’m a designer, I need to have my books beautifully designed. 😀 And for my favorites – I wait a long time until I can save money and buy the prettiest version available. 🙂

    1. I’m always drawn to purple book covers, they look so atmospheric for some reason 😍 I love pretty, intricate illustrations too, especially when all the little details fit – it just adds an extra layer to the story! Stock photos of people are the worst, seeing the same photo on 5 different covers definitely doesn’t make me want to pick the book up. Maybe that’s petty, but when the cover’s that basic I worry the story will be too. I bet you have lots of beautiful editions on your shelf then 😍

      1. Me too. 🙂 I know haha, somehow I feel if they didn’t make an effort with the cover – the story will feel the same. :/ Well I do have some, because sometimes I have to opt for cheaper and uglier versions haha. 😀

    1. It’s even prettier in real life! The silver foil is so SHINY 😍 And it’s a really good retelling of The Little Mermaid as well, I know you love retellings as much as I do 💕

  2. I’m in love with the Under the Pendulum Sun cover (100% cover buy). There are so many details – every time I look at it I discover something new – and it’s perfect for the story. Also the color scheme of The Library of Fates is the best possible one and that whole floating composition feels so mysterious.

  3. All the covers you posted are awesome but I am in love with the first three, they are so so beautiful! And I love when a cover match the book, and it’s not just a piece of art, I think it’s a little plus for the book 🙂

    1. Those three are my favorites too, I love how detailed they are! I couldn’t agree more. It’s so fun when you’ve read the book and then notice all the little things on the cover that have a connection to the story 😊
